Short form - Note - Social Post Type Added

I've added a new post type to the Allone Blogger template (The template I created for this site), designed for short notes and social interactions. This type will be perfect for short notes and like a microblogging space  of the site. And best for short content  posts like quick updates log, announcements, and syndicated posts.

Personally, I'll be using it for POSSEing short social or reply posts and bookmarking, all in line with IndieWeb principles.(Something I'm still experimenting on)

The Allone template already includes various post types:

Video Post Type:

Ideal for video content with rich schema support and streaming site integration.

I do not use this on this site yet, and it is still in development on the main template file.

Comic Post Type:

Specifically for comics and webcomics, utilizing comic schema microdata and IndieWeb microformats2 .

This is currently experimental. I'm using a minimalist, semi-automated version on this site for comic posts.

With the blogger enclosure link and tile feature, this is possible

Long-Form Post Type

This is the default fallback for any long-form content, leveraging microformats and BlogPosting microdata. Actually the whole template uses the BlogPosting microdata.

On this site, my long form includes the blogposts / articles, and posts like this type that are not labeled 'Comic', or 'Social'.

Yeah Social posts are new.

Now, with this update, it now supports short form posts and notes.

Short-Form / Note Post Type

Short form posts are posts that are shorter and are also called 'Notes' in the IndieWeb jargon. A note is a (short) titleless post. This form of post is mostly used  for micro blogging and social posts like what you get on twitter, mastodon, thread, bluesky and other microblogging platforms with word limits.

Twitter: 280 characters, Mastodon: 500 characters (though some instances might have different limits), Bluesky: 256 characters, Threads: 500 characters. - I just have to keep that in mind for the sake of cross-posting.

I already implemented POSSEing from my site - I post a first on my site then syndicate it elsewhere. This way, I get to have original version of my posts on my site but what about the replies?

For web replies, I rely on brid.gy classic service and webmention and I'll try to use this new short-form note post type for further federating and crossposting. I just have to markup the post with microformats2 and  labeled it 'Social' . Fingers crossed I don't know what I am doing ( maybe I'll fine a better explanation later).

Now I can post shorter notes posts that can serve as a social media post, I can interact with posts on other site or platform, I can reply bookmark, repost and experiment with other kinds of interactions. 🀨

Will I continue to manually cross post or opt in for an automation like maybe IFTTT or Zapier ? 🀷🏾‍♂️ I'm yet to find out.

I won't care about it for now as long as I now get to post almost everything on this site. Subscribe to feed or always visit here.

A View Of It - I tried replying from this site

Here is how I make use of the social post type to federate and reply from my site:

1. Publish the Post

First, I create a post and publish it from the blogger dashboard editor. I make sure the post has the Social label. This is compulsory. I also add a reply label so the post will be archived under that label. You can use the reply label to see all my reply entries.

2. How the Post Appears

Here’s how the post looks after publishing. You can see that I've properly marked it up with microdata and microformats.

3. Receiving Webmentions /Replies

Finally, see how I am able to receive interactions as webmentions. This shows a reply from the recipient. bridgy's handwork

How I Added Different Post Types on Blogger

Blogger doesn’t natively support different post types, all these post types are achieved using b:if conditions and proper labeling within. This is just a workaround.

While I'm not entirely sure it's the "right" way, it works well for now. The Allone template isn’t publicly available yet, so I'm always ready to address any bugs as they arise.

I remembered lamenting that I was getting too involved with tinkering with codes on this site while I neglected its performance.

I stopped for a while and now I'm back at it. Notice how I make a turn to the advance level road of the indieweb with my Blogger car (site) and I've not even been writing lately and I feel like I'm starting to miss out on what matters the most - content and engagement.
